Can a Highway Save Lives?

If the right vision, a flexible architecture and fearless partners join forces… ABSOLUTELY.

In 1997, a large St. Louis-area IDN had a vision to provide remote telestroke reads to rural areas across Missouri prior to transporting patients to their Level 1 Trauma Center.  What has become Missouri’s Acute Image Transfer Network (AITN) started with 10 locations and a major medical center.

Today, the AITN project has expanded to over 130 remote locations, sending images across three large academic centers for specialty reads for stroke & cerebrovascular, adult & pediatric trauma, high-risk maternal fetal medicine and beyond.

This network became a reality by leveraging the internet, PICOM365 Cloud in Microsoft Azure, and PicomGateway flexible and affordable software.  DICOM images can be sent easily and securely in real-time from remote participating hospitals with one click via an always-on Cloud Gateway to the appropriate group of specialists. Automated intelligence facilitates reconciliation between external orders and internal exams as well as interoperability between reading environments, all with no VPN requirements.

It takes a “village” to build the future.  ScImage and its partners have done just that, joining practices, urgent cares, EDs and hospitals to provide scalable, secure and cost-effective top of the line care.
